FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

+-

What is Buildings & Premises Insurance?

It is insurance that covers the cost of repairing or rebuilding the physical structure of your commercial property – including walls, roof and permanent fixtures – following insured damage.

+-

Do I need buildings insurance if I am a tenant?

Usually the freeholder or landlord insures the main structure, but tenants may still need cover for improvements, shop fronts or internal fit-out. Always check your lease responsibilities.

+-

How is the sum insured calculated?

The sum insured should reflect the full rebuild cost of the property, including professional fees, demolition and debris removal. Market value is not the same as rebuild value – we can help you assess this.

+-

Does buildings insurance cover contents and stock?

No – buildings cover is for the structure and fixed items. Contents, machinery and stock are usually insured under separate sections, which can be combined with your buildings policy as part of a commercial combined package.
