Will I be covered if my van is modified?

You need to tell us about any modifications you make to your van. There are some modifications we'll usually cover, and some we don't.

We'll let you know if we're able to cover your modifications when you're getting a quote.

If you already have a policy with us and you make some new modifications to your van, you'll need to let us know so we can check if we can still cover you and that the changes don't invalidate your policy.

Is my pick-up covered by van insurance?

If you've been struggling to find pick-up insurance (pick-ups are vehicles with a front cab and an open cargo area in the back), it could be because you're looking in the wrong place.
This is because pick-ups are classed as vans rather than cars for insurance purposes, even though some people use them as an alternative to a car. This means van insurance is the right choice for you and should cover you regardless of how you use your pick-up - for leisure or for work.

Do I need van insurance?

Van insurance is a legal requirement under the Road Traffic Act if you own or drive a van or pickup, unless you declare the vehicle off-road (SORN) and keep it on private property. If you're pulled over by the police, they can issue you with a fine and points on your licence for driving without insurance. But the penalty for driving without insurance doesn't necessarily stop there. If the case goes to court, you could face an unlimited fine and even disqualification from driving, which means putting a halt to your business activities. The police also have the power to seize and destroy your vehicle if you've driven it without insurance.

To insure my van with you, do I need to be the owner and registered keeper?

For you to be the policyholder, either you, your spouse, or a finance or lease company will need to be the registered owner or keeper of the van you're looking to insure.

Are there any policy exclusions?

Yes, and while these will be detailed in your policy, typical ones include theft if the keys are left in the vehicle, deliberate acts of negligence or recklessness, and wear and tear
