Protecting the Parts of a Build That Aren’t Covered by Liability Insurance
Public liability only covers damage you cause to others - not damage to your own project, materials or work in progress. Contract Works insurance protects the physical part of the project itself, from the first delivery of materials through to handover.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
+-
+-
What does Contract Works insurance not cover?
It normally excludes defective workmanship, design errors, wear and tear, and damage to
existing structures unless specifically included. We will guide you through any exclusions.
+-
Do I need Contract Works if my main contractor has it?
It depends who is responsible for insuring the works under the contract (e.g. JCT clauses).
If the main contractor’s policy does not extend to all subcontractors, you may still need your own cover.
+-
How is the sum insured calculated?
Usually the maximum value of works on site at any one time, including materials, temporary works,
and labour. For annual contractors, we help estimate this based on your project cycle.
+-
Is Contract Works insurance needed for domestic jobs?
Yes - if you are responsible for the project until completion, you may need to insure the materials
and works, even on small domestic extensions or refurbishments.
+-
Can I get single project Contract Works insurance?
Yes. Single project cover is available for larger or one-off jobs. Annual policies may be
more cost-effective for contractors doing ongoing projects.
